Aptransco To Adopt Best Technology To Strengthen Transmission Network

APTransco, which has bagged the award of best performing transmission utility, is contemplating to adopt latest art of technologies available in the world such as Ultra Extra High Tension (EHT) lines and substations, enhancement of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) lines and so on for further strengthening of transmission network to evacuate power from new and upcoming generating stations as well as reducing the transmission losses.

Recognizing the best and sustained efforts of APTransco, the Jury Panel of the 5th India Power Award-2012 headed by P. Abraham, former Secretary, Power, declared APTransco as the “Best Performing Transmission Utility” in the country for its excellent operation and reducing transmission losses to 4.22% during 2011-12 as against 4.50% in the previous year apart from increasing the system availability to 99.89% which is the highest in the country.

Hiralal Samariya, CMD, APTransco said the credit goes to team work and congratulated the engineers and employees for their concerted efforts and requested them to continue the same spirit in future also.

The CMD specifically congratulated K. Ranganatham, JMD/APTransco, who was conferred with the “Award of Leading Energy Personality” for his immense contribution to the energy sector. Ranganatham, who will be receiving the award at New Delhi tomorrow, said it is a great privilege to receive such a prestigious National Award which motivates AP power utilities for further achieving major milestones.

Ranganatham was also the receipient of Jawaharlal Nehru Birth Centenary Award for 1993 conferred by Central Board of Irrigation and Power for his outstanding service in the field of Energy Conservation and Reactive Power Management. His vast experience in the power sector benefited the electricity consumers to a large extent and his continuous efforts as CMD have made the turnaround of APNPDCL & APSPDCL as the best DISCOMs in the country. He has the honor of being selected as Best CEO for the year 2004-05 amongst Distribution Companies of 80 countries by the Association for Electricity Supply Industries of East Asia and Western Pacific (AESEAP).

It is pertinent to note that APTransco also envisaged to invest Rs 8,500 crores in the next four years for construction of 116 EHT Substations (SS) consisting of 14 Nos. 400 Kv, 21 Nos. 220 Kv, 81 Nos. 132 Kv SS and around 11,000 Circuit Kilometers of EHT lines for strengthening the transmission system, the CMD said.
