The Andhra Pradesh State Remote Sensing Applications Centre (APSRAC), Planning Department, has organized a one day national workshop on “AP State Spatial Data Infrastructure: Issues & Concerns” at Dr. MCR HRD Institute here on Thursday.
The workshop was inaugurated by SP Tucker, Special Chief Secretary to Government, Planning Department. Sanjay Gupta, Ex-officio Special Secretary to Government, Planning Department and Director General APSRAC Anoop Singh, Spl Secretary, Govt of AP(IT & C Dept.). The Objective of the workshop was to open a dialogue with nodal agencies and experienced delegates to elucidate on concept and framework development of Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) at state level.
The workshop was attended by National organizations like National Informatics Centre, National Remote Sensing Centre, International Institute of Information Technology – Hyderabad, state organizations like Maharashtra Remote Sensing Applications Centre, Karnataka State Remote Sensing Application Centre, Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology and state line departments like Panchayat Raj, Ground Water, Irrigation, Forest, Agriculture.
In opening remarks, SP Tucker has suggested to the gathering to deliberate on the important issues such as Internal rating mechanism of the technology used, rewarding the Innovations, creation of a group and sharing knowledge. The speakers also deliberated on the importance of trained man power, use of open source, data sharing policy, visualisation, user access to local language and effective role of GIS in Governance for a planned approach and implementation.
The organisations participated explained the current services available with them, the importance of plan to share knowledge and permissible data as per the proper guidelines. (INN)
