AP’s cabinet decides to hold separate EAMCET

Putting an end to the controversy, the Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to hold EAMCET for its students separately.

The decision was taken during the AP’s cabinet meeting held here on Monday under the chairmanship of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at the State Secretariat here on Monday.

The Councils for Higher Education of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were at loggerheads over the conduct of joint EAMCET exams for the students of both the States. The Telangana’s CHE was not willing to buy Andhra Pradesh’s contention that it holds the right to conduct joint EAMCET exams for the students of both the States as per the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.

On December 29, the APSCHE had announced the conduct of Engineering, Agriculture and Medicine Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) for both the State on May 10. But the TSCHE immediately countered its move and announced that it would conduct EAMCET for Telangana students on May 14. Even Governor ESL Narasimhan intervened on the issue and tried to convince both the States to find an amicable solution to the controversy to ensure that the students do not suffer.

The decision of AP’s cabinet has resolved one of the most contentious issues between the two States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. (INN)
