Minority Welfare Department has revoked the appointment of Ali Abdullah Rafai as Qazi who was performing marriages of Shafai community girls with Arab Sheiks in Greater Hyderabad. Special secretary Minority Welfare Syed Omer Jaleel issued GO RT 13 in this connection quashing GO RT 11 dated January 8. The GO stated that news reports were published on June 28, 2011 in local Urdu newspapers which stated that Qazi was allegedly involved in performing contract marriages of poor Muslim girls with Arab citizens and Bhawani Nagar police had registered a case under various sections after arresting him and the case was pending with the court.
GO further stated that Ali Abdullah Rafai tried to hide the facts in his application submitted in connection with his recruitment on April 4, 2013. Since the matter is pending with the court the GO of his appointment as government qazi issued a day before has been revoked.
