APPA to be given 60 acres of forest land

Hyderabad, January 12: The AP Police Academy (APPA) will be given 60 acres of land by the State Forest Deparment to compensate it for the 27 acres of APPA land used by the State government for the Outer Ring Road project, Home Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy said today.

Speaking at the passing out parade of the Stipendary Cadet Trainee Sub-inspectors of the 7th Armed Reserve and the 8th AP Special Police & Special Protection Force at APPA today, she said, “Proposals to strengthen the state police are under consideration. Two more battalions will be added to the existing 15 battalions.”

Calling upon the cadets to be prepared to deal with all sorts of law and order challenges, the Home Minister said they had to prepare themselves especially in anti-terror operations, as they could be absorbed into the anti-terror force, Octopus.

Director General of Police K Arvinda Rao advised the cadets to regularly update themselves with the latest methods and technology for effectively tackling terrorists and Maoists. Lauding the services of Greyhounds, the anti-Naxal force, he said intense training had helped them learn guerrilla warfare techniques used by the Maoists though they were not prepared for that sort of operations. APPA Director N Sambasiva Rao said the cadets were trained in various subjects like special and local laws and field operations like handling weapons, mob control firing, left-wing extremist and even traffic handling.

APPA Special Director Rajiv Trivedi was among those present. After reviewing the colourful passing out parade by the cadets, the Home Minister handed over trophies and medals to the cadets who excelled in different categories of training.
