APMS Plans Chalo Hyderabad On Nov. 24

Andhra Pradesh Mahila Samakhya (APMS) will be organizing ‘Chalo Hyderabad’ and dharna on November 24 to register its protest against the government’s failure to check increasing crime rate against women. It also decided to burn the Union government in effigy in protest against gas cylinder price hike. These decisions were taken during its State council meeting held on Monday.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, B. V. Vijayalaxmi, secretary, National Women’s Samkhya, expressed concern over the women meting out humiliation, sexual harassment and physical harm in the society though they were marching ahead in progress and success in various fields. Criticizing the government for not evincing interest in constituting State women’s commission, she pointed out lacunae in the women protection laws were responsible for heinous incidents like rape and murder all over the country. She felt that unless the offenders are punished with an iron hand, the incidents like domestic violence, bride burning, foetal deaths, honor killings, child marriages and so on would continue unabated.

APMS leaders Durga Bhavani, N. Jyoti, and others were present. (NSS)
