APGenco sets new record

Hyderabad, October 28: Setting a record of sorts, APGenco generated 19,633 MU from April 1 to October 24 as against 17,679 MU produced during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 11 per cent in power generation.

It achieved the highest monthly power generation of 3,734 MU in September.

Following heavy rainfall in recent months, the hydel power generation of APGenco between April 1 and October 24 was 4,711 MU as against 3,312 MU generated during the same period last year, recording an increase of 42.2 per cent. The thermal power generation also rose by 3.9 per cent. The thermal power plants produced 14,922 MU this year as against 14,366 MU generated during the same period last year. The APGenco is planning to generate additional power by commissioning power projects having a capacity of 2,800 MW by 2012-13.

At a review meeting on APGenco projects held here today, chief minister K Rosaiah directed the power utility to evolve an action plan to ensure that the state becomes self-sufficient in power generation by 2014 and complete the power projects taken up by it as per schedule. He lauded the APGenco officials for completing the annual overhaul of 14 thermal units out of the total 23.

The officials informed that the Union ministry of environment and forests gave environmental clearance for the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Project (1×600 MW) in Yerraguntla mandal of Kadapa district.

Power generation of NTTPS (Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station) Unit-7 (500 MW) in Vijayawada got stabilised after installation of a generator a couple of days ago.

The commercial operations of Kakatiya Thermal Power Station Unit-1 (500 MW) at Bhoopalapally commenced on September 14, Priyadarshini Jurala HEP Unit-4 (39 MW) on September 8 and Pochampad Hydro Electric Scheme Unit-4 (9 MW) on October 12.
