As yet another milestone in power sector of Andhra Pradesh, K.Vijayanand, IAS, Managing Director, APGENCO & CMD/APTRANSCO was conferred with “Pride of India award” by the Institute of Economic Studies, New Delhi and the APGENCO was conferred with a gold medal for its continuous meritorious performance. The awards were received by the CMD from Kaptan Singh Solanki, Governor of Haryana & Punjab, during an event held at Goa.
Under the able leadership provided by K.Vijayanand as the head of the two most important organizations in the Power sector i.e AP TRANSCO & APGENCO, both the prominent organizations have excelled in the operational performance and have become mainstays for implementation of sustained 24X7 Power for all (PFA) program, the prime objective of the Andhra Pradesh Govt.
During the tenure of K Vijayanand, APGENCO achieved many milestones, including commissioning of 2X800 MW Super Critical Thermal units at Krishnapatnam, Nellore District, the first of its kind in the State sector in the country. In the past, three 500 MW thermal units were commissioned under the able guidance of K Vijayanand. Besides capacity addition through Thermal, equal encouragement was given to renewable energy sources and massive capacity addition is under progress through solar & Wind projects. The APGENCO existing units are performing at above 80% plant Load Factor (higher than NTPC), with highest availability factor among state utilities for thermal power plants and continuously winning awards like 8th & 9th Enertia awards Annual Green Tech environment award etc. The APGENCO has achieved 78% deemed PLF during 2015-16. The major milestones of APGENCO includes reducing Station Heat Rate(SHR) by adopting Super Critical Technology techniques in constructing boilers and effective implementation of ERP and improving of PLF by adopting latest technologies and cost effective measures etc. The financial performance is better and improving year-by-year.
Receiving the prestigious award, Vijayanand stated the unstinted support of the State Govt. and the able leadership provided by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in taking bold steps for correcting the deficit situation of 22 MU per day in June 2014 to “power surplus stage” and improving the performance of the power utilities has resulted in transforming AP power sector as the best State sector in the country.
All the four power utilities within the AP State Viz. AP GENCO, APTRANSCO, APEPDCL & APSPDCL have bagged several National Awards meant for best performance in the Power Sector and stood No. 1 among all the states based on the performance parameters for the power sector, said Vijayanand.
During the award presentation ceremony, on the request of distinguished guests Yogendra Prasad, former CMD/NHPC, Prabhath Sahai, CMD/Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation Ltd., etc, K Vijayanand has made a Presentation on the overall performance of AP power utilities in particular APGENCO and disclosed that APGENCO has taken up a gigantic capacity addition plan of adding 11,210 MW in the next 10 years at a total estimated cost of Rs.64,182 crore.
