APGENCO Asked To Expedite All Ongoing Thermal Projects To Meet Demand

Since the State was experiencing severe power shortage in the recent times due to drastic short supply of Natural Gas, which forced utilities to impose power restrictions, the State government has directed the APGenco to expedite all the ongoing thermal power projects to meet the abnormal increase in demand. The government also asked the BHEL, one of the Navarathna Companies the Centre, to coordinate and fully co-operate with the State government and APGenco for completion of the power projects, which is the need of the hour.

Responding to the request of the State government, on behalf of BHEL, which is the major supplier of key equipment such as Boilers, Turbines, Generators, B.P. Rao, Chairman & Managing Director/BHEL/New Delhi has assured M. Sahoo, Prl. Secretary, Energy and Chairman/APGENCO, K. Vijayanand, MD/APGENCO, D. Prabhakar Rao, JMD/ APGENCO at Vidyut Soudha, today, that the BHEL will supply and erect all the required equipment, material, accessories well ahead of scheduled delivery dates by overcoming all the bottlenecks for completion of ongoing thermal projects of APGenco.

D. Prabhakar Rao JMD/APGENCO, who briefed B.P. Rao, CMD/BHEL about the immediate necessity of timely supply and erection of major equipment for the thermal projects under construction, had requested CMD/BHEL to depute special officer to continuously monitor the supply of above equipment so as to co-ordinate with APGENCO and avoid any delays. Keeping in view of the abnormal increase in demand-supply gap in the State due to various reasons such as ever increasing power demand, severe shortage of fuel like Natural Gas, coal, inadequate inflows into Hydel reservoirs, etc., the State government was keen that APGenco expedites and commissions all the ongoing projects well ahead of scheduled dates by taking all precautionary measures, he added.
It is pertinent to note that APGenco is the largest power generating company of the State with installed capacity of 8924.9 MW comprising 5092.5 MW Thermal, 3829.36 MW Hydel, 2 MW Wind, 1 MW Solar power as against present total installed capacity of 15,898.30 MW in the state. (NSS)
