Apex court questions CBI on evidence in Aarushi murder

New Delhi, April 25: On a plea related to the Aarushi Talwar murder, the Supreme Court Monday asked the CBI what evidence, other than it filed in its closure report in 2010, was available before the trial court to take cognizance of murder charges against the slain teenager’s dentist parents Rajesh and Nupur Talwar.

“On the day of the cognizance (of murder charges) what was the material, other than submitted by the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) in its closure report, that was relied upon,” an apex court bench of Justice B. Sudershan Reddy and Justice S.S. Nijjar asked Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium.

The court, while hearing a plea filed by Nupur Talwar against the trial court decision, asked “whether any material is there before the (trial) court, other than the material collected by the CBI and filed in its closure report”.

On May 16, 2008, 14-year-old Aarushi was found murdered in her home in Noida in Uttar Pradesh.

Initial suspicion was on the domestic help Yam Prasad Banjade alias Hem Raj. However, his body was subsequently recovered from the rooftop of the Talwars’ house.
