APCPDCL Gears Up To Meet Power Supply For Biodiversity

The State government has directed the power utilities to complete all the erection and maintenance works for providing uninterrupted and quality power for the 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 11) on Biological Diversity (Biodiversity), which will be held in Hyderabad from October 1 to 19, which is a prestigious and biggest international conference ever held in India.

M. Sahoo, Principal Secretary, Energy, who reviewed the electrical works carried out by the power utilities along with Hiralal Samaria, CMD, APTRANSCO and G. Anantha Ramu, CMD, APCPDCL, stated that the government was determined to ensure uninterrupted power supply to avoid inconvenience to more than 8000 delegates from 193 countries attending the international conference.

Anantha Ramu, while apprising the arrangements and works carried out by CPDCL for the is prestigious conference stated that APCPDCL has fully geared up to meet the power supply requirements for the significant global meet on Biodiversity for monitoring and maintaining of uninterrupted, reliable and safe power supply at CoP-11 venue and other identified locations on top priority. A special control room has been established at 33/11 kV Kothaguda substation by deploying special officers and staff with wireless communication sets, required tools, spares & other equipment for 24 hours monitoring. The erection works such as upgrading the power transformers, erecting additional distribution transformers, laying of underground cables, shifting of power lines were carried out in coordination with GHMC authorities. The venues for this international event at Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) and Hitex areas at Hitech City are provided power supply through dedicated feeders from 132/33 kV Madhapur substation as main source and from 132/33 kV Jubilee hills substation as an alternate source to maintain uninterrupted power supply, he added. The beautification works like painting of electrical poles & Distribution Transformers, raising of plinths, removal of damaged poles, alignment of distribution boxes, etc., have been taken up under Renovation & Modernization works with an investment of around Rs.68 lakhs.

The international conference on Biodiversity will serve to support and promote implementation of the objectives of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity with an aim to mainstream biodiversity at different levels. The different countries are encouraged to develop, implement and communicate the results of national strategies for implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity. It is pertinent to note that previously, the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 10) was held in Nagoya, Japan during October 18 to 29, 2010. (NSS)
