Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Secretary Kolanukonda Sivaji here today appealed the government to create greater Vijayawada in order to expand its geographical vastness to ease congestion. Addressing a press conference here today, he said even smaller cities then Vijayawda, like Guntur, were being developed as grater cities, by incorporating nearby villages, in order expand its geographical vastness, but efforts are not being done for the creation of grater Vijayawada, he deplored. Mr Sivaji said as the river Krishna one side and massive hills the other sides had become obstacle for the growth of the city. The city is becoming unfit for habitation as traffic congestions are galore, following crossing of NH 5 and NH 9 through the heart of the city. The senior Congress leader said the city did not reap any benefits even after the development BRTS road. He suggested the BRTS road should be extended up to railway station to ease traffic congestion.
He pointed out that railway department had constructed a wall across the road and asked the officials concerned to convince the railway officials to remove the wall to extend the BRTS link road up to the railway station. He appealed the government to complete the work by ensuing elections for local bodies due to be held by June this year. UNI
