Protesting against the indifferent attitude of the Centre and State government over according special status to Andhra Pradesh post-bifurcation, the APCC has decided to observe relay hunger strikes in all district headquarters in the State for five days from Monday.
In a pressnote here on Sunday, the APCC stated that protest fasts will be observed from 10 am to 5 pm on all the five days to press the Union government to accord special status to the State, package for development of backward areas, release of adequate funds for Polavaram project, creation of Railway Zone, establishment of prestigious national institutions and so on. Congress president Sonia Gandhi had also written twice to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the above issues, the pressnote added.
With the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre failing to render justice to the State in the last two budgets, the State Congress leaders have decided to organize various protest programs to exert pressure on the Centre over these burning issues. With the huge response to its one-crore signature campaign, the APCC has given a call for observing relay hunger strikes. The program will be launched by APCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy, his predecessor Botsa Satyanarayana and former minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy in Anantapur on Monday. Later, the three leaders will participate in the relay fast in Guntur on March 17, Rajahmundry on March 18, Visakhapatnam on March 19 and Chittoor on March 20. (NSS)
