AP to take on mosquito menace with monitoring system

New Delhi: The Andhra Pradesh government plans to to combat the mosquito menace by adopting high-tech monitoring system in three of its cities.

The state government has submitted a proposal to the Central government for approval and funding of the ‘Smart Mosquito Density Monitoring System’ to take on mosquitoes.

To be implemented in Vijayawada, Vishakhapatnam and Tirupati, the system will help monitor the density of the mosquitoes through sensors.

It will also provide the location of the mosquitoes as well their gender and species.

“The objective is to precisely target control measures, reduce waste and improve efficiency,” Minister of State for Urban Development Rao Inderjit Singh said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.

He said said the Centre assists the states in their efforts by providing financial and technical assistance through schemes and programmes like Smart City Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission.
