AP students capture top 7 of 10 spots in IIT JEE

New Delhi, May 25: Students from the state dominated the Joint Entrance Examination conducted for admission into the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology, capturing seven of the top ten spots in the results which were released on Wednesday.

Among the seven spots, four of the top five places were bagged by students
from the state, with Prithvi Teja of Hyderabad bagging the first rank and Shashank Jain of Delhi the second spot. This was followed by AP students Y Mithun, Simonth Reddy and Sai Kiran. The sixth rank was bagged by Kunal Saha and the eighth and ninth ranks by Bhargav Reddy and Varun respectively.
The dominance by the students from the state was such that Andhra Pradesh students bagged 40 of the top 100 ranks in the test. More than 4.85 lakh students had appeared for the IIT JEE this year.

The results are available on the JEE website, http://jee.iitd.ac.in/result.php, apart from the notice boards of IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Mumbai, IIT Chennai, IIT Guwahati and IIT Roorkee. Candidates can also avail their results by calling up the IIT-JEE helpline numbers set up at every IIT.

The students who have passed the test will now have two rounds of admission to gain entry into the prestigious IITs with as many as 9,600 seats open for them. For as many as 95,925 students, this was a last chance to get into an IIT of their choice as they would be barred from taking the test again while 3.89 lakh candidates appeared for the first time.

On a disquieting note, the IIT Kanpur has decided to withhold the results of 30 candidates who were caught while cheating at an examination centre in Bathinda.

From this year onwards, medical boards have been set up to offer respite for physically challenged students in IIT-Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Guwahati and IIT-Madras. These students earlier had to travel to Delhi for a medical check-up.
