Hyderabad, June 14: A 22-year-old student from Tandur in Ranga Reddy district was found dead, allegedly murdered, in a pond on a US university campus on Saturday.
Adarsh Johnson, pursuing an MS at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB) in Belton, Texas, had been missing from his room since Friday and his body was found in the pond Saturday evening, reports reaching here said.
The parents of the student alleged that their son had been receiving threat calls ever since he became the leader of the university’s Student Welfare Association.
Adarsh Johnson, resident of Mallireddypally in Tandur, went to the US to pursue an MS in information systems (MSIS ) at UMHB in Texas one and a half year ago.
According to his parents, Johnson was recently recognized as the MSIS Outstanding Graduate Student of 2010. He was scheduled to graduate in August.
According to reports reaching here, Johnson’s friends noticed him leave a late-night gathering that took place at his home near the university campus in the wee hours of Friday. “The party was thrown by Adarsh to celebrate the recognition given to him by the university. He received a phone call and he left the party mid-way,’’ his father John Bosco alleged.
Johnson did not return to him room and his friend’s reported the matter to the Belton police the next day. On Saturday evening, the Belton police received a call about a body found in a pond near College Street on the university campus.
John Bosco suspected foul play behind the death of his son. “My son told me that he was receiving threat calls ever since he was given the recognition by the university authorities. His friends who are jealous of his achievement might have killed him,’’ he alleged.
