AP slum prevention act suggestions invited

Hyderabad, August 19:: Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) initiated by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, envisaged a ‘Slum-free India’ by 2014.

In Andhra Pradesh, Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) has been designated as the state level nodal agency (SLNA) by the State Government, to monitor/implement the RAY activities. As a prerequisite to RAY, for conferring property rights to the slum dwellers, MEMPA has proposed a draft legislation, namely, “Andhra Pradesh Slum (Redevelopment, Rehabilitation and Prevention) Act 2010”.

The MEPMA Director said in a press note here that the draft legislation is placed on MEPMA website www.apmepma.gov.in for inviting suggestions and inputs from the public. The final draft would be placed before the legislative Assembly after incorporating necessary modifications, duly considering the suggestions and feedback from all the stakeholders.

The suggestions/comments/advice/opinions can be sent by post to The Mission Director, Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA), 640 A C Guards, Opposite PTI Building, Hyderabad -500 004, Andhra Pradesh, and by email at ikp.urban@qmail.com on or before August 28, 2010.
