AP Signs MOU with UK on energy conservation measures

The sustained efforts of the AP Government and Power Utilities towards improving public service by strengthening the AP Power Sector with enhanced energy efficient programs and promotion of renewable energy sources apart from conventional methods have received national and international acclaim.

AP, as one of the three States in India, selected by the Centre for implementation of power for all (24×7) program and by recognizing the State’s potentiality and pro public policies, the United Kingdom has come forward to enter into an MoU with State Energy Conservation Mission of Govt of AP for collaboration in energy efficient/energy conservation measures and low carbon growth. This collaborative action will help share expertise, knowledge, best practices and encourage innovation and bring about effective measures to achieve energy efficient growth and prosperity for AP. This could also create opportunities for business collaboration between the UK and AP, as UK has advanced low carbon technology available in the market.

Energy Secretary Ajay Jain, who had an interaction with Hon Edward Davey, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate change (UK) along with CEO/SECM at Hyderabad, said it is an honour for the State to collaborate with UK for achieving energy efficiency and fostering low carbon growth which will benefit the State immensely, without any upfront financial investment by Govt./Power Utilities.

During the recent interaction, Ajay Jain informed Hon Edward Davey that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who has been reviewing the power supply position and progress of power sector on a daily basis, has instructed power utilities to put all out efforts for achieving self sufficiency in power sector to which in turn paves way for overall economic development.
In response to Secretary Jain’s appraisal, UK’s Secretary of State for Climate Change and Energy Edward Davey highly appreciated the initiatives of AP Govt. in energy efficiency/conservation and promotion of renewable energy sources which has drawn the UK’s attention and also global community. “In fact, it is excellent and well done, perhaps AP is front runner in promotion of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources like solar and wind which will be fruitful for coming generations”. It is pertinent to note that with the proactive policies/measures of the Chief Minister, the Energy Efficient Services Ltd., Ministry of Power, Govt. of India have initiated implementation of energy efficient activities like replacement of incandescent bulbs with energy efficient LEDs in domestic sector, replacement of inefficient non ISI pump sets with energy efficient pump sets and agreed to take up upgrading of public lighting infrastructure in urban local bodies without any additional financial burden on the Power utilities.
As part of improving the qualitative services to the consumers, the Govt./Utilities are committed to impart the global technology on energy efficiency activities including that of the UK, which the British Deputy High Commissioner, Andrew McAllister proposed in a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary to Govt. of AP and Chairman of SECM IYR Krishna Rao for collaborative work between UK and SECM/Govt. of AP.(NSS)
