Charged with transforming Andhra Pradesh into a high income economy in an inclusive and sustainable manner, through transforming public services, reforming education and attracting foreign investment into the private sector, Andhra Pradesh State Development Planning Society, will sign an Agreement with Performance Management and Delivery Unit (PEMANDU), Prime Minister’s Department, Malaysia.
The agreement will be signed in the presence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and PEMANDU CEO and Special Advisor to Prime Minister of Malaysia Dato’ Idris Jala, on December 15 in Vijayawada. This is in succession of the signing of an MoU between PEMANDU and NITI-Aayog in Kuala Lumpur on November 24. PEMANDU and the Union Government will work as partners in rolling out impactful and meaningful public sector initiatives in the country. In this regard, Andhra Pradesh is the first State government to work with PEMANDU to develop, implement and monitor government programs and strategic developmental plans.
The Chief Minister had also been in talks with PEMANDU and expressed strong intentions to adopt Malaysia’s PEMANDU model of focus-based approach to work on performance indicators and improve State’s income. PEMANDU will help teams across the government with designing and implementing projects. AP’s partnership with PEMANDU will emphasize on appropriate governance and institutional mechanisms in tune with contemporary needs and aspirations of the people that will help the state to achieve the goal of being the best state in the country by 2029 and the best destination in the world by 2050.
Under its customized “Big Fast Results” Methodology, PEMANDU will provide on-the-job training to the Central Coordinating Team provided by the state government. It also manages a dashboard that holds data on each ministry’s progress. Progress will be monitored and scorecards will be updated on a weekly basis. This gives the team a chance to rigorously monitor performance.
Sanjay Gupta, CEO Andhra Pradesh State Development Planning Society and Ex-Officio Special Secretary to Government, Planning Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh and Ravindran Devagunam, Director, PEMANDU will sign the agreement. (NSS)
