Hyderabad, March 12: Troubled by a severe power crisis at home, Andhra Pradesh today requested the Centre to ensure supply of 2.5 mmscmd of gas to independent power producers to boost the electricity production in the state.
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy spoke to Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister S Jaipal Reddy over phone, requesting him to direct GAIL and Reliance Industries Limited to sort out the issues and supply 2.5 mmscmd of gas to independent power producers in the state.
Sources in the Chief Minister’s Office said Kiran requested the Union Minister to permit swapping of 2.5 mmscmd of RLNG with natural gas from the D-6 well of RIL in the Krishna-Godavari basis.
“With the supply of required gas, an additional 500 MW (12 million units) of power could be generated from the gas-based power plants in the state.
