‘AP right place for setting up automotive units’

Hyderabad, March 10: Andhra Pradesh offers a distinctive advantage to the auto industry due to the availability of large technical pool and accessibility to both domestic and international market, according to J Geetha Reddy, major industries minister.

Speaking at the inauguration of the second edition of the international bus and special vehicles expo 2011, she urged investors to consider AP as the potential destination for setting up manufacturing facilities.

She said the state government is promoting automotive manufacturing clusters near Toopran and Chevella on the outskirts of Hyderabad and at Naidupet in Nellore district.

The four-day event organised jointly by the Confederation of Indian Industries and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) showcases variety of models besides displaying advance transport technologies, navigation, intelligent transport system, passenger information system including air conditioners, air suspension system, high quality engines and transmission systems.

“There’s a need to develop public transport system with state-of-the-art technologies to ensure better, safe and reliable transport system,” said Sudhakara Rao Uppada, executive director, Association of State Road Transport Undertakings.

According to Akash Passey, chairman, Vehicle Classification, Sales Reporting & Analysis Group, SIAM and managing director, Volvo Buses India, the commercial vehicle segment is one of the major contributors to the Indian automobile industry.
