AP requests to increase coal supply

In order to meet the unprecedented demand and to provide required power supply to the consumers to the maximum extent possible, Andhra Pradesh Government today requested Coal India to increase coal allotment to the state to optimize the thermal generation and also urged the Union Railway Ministry to provide sufficient railway rakes for transportation of adequate coal to APGENCO and NTPC projects as well. Disclosing the details, Andhra Pradesh Energy Princiapal Secretary M Sahoo, who held discussion with top officials of NTPC on the issue, suggested that it was high time for NTPC Simhadri to import coal and to step up generation to its full capacity to meet the ever growing power requirements of Andhra Pradesh, a release said here today. Right now NTPC was supplying only 800 MW to Andhra Pradesh from Simhadri plant as against AP’s full share of 1400 MW due to severe shortage of coal particularly from Mahanadi Coal Fields, Orissa, leaving gap of 600 MW.

Mr Sahoo suggested CMD/APTRANSCO to continuously monitor the matter with Simhadri unit of NTPC, which is one of the crucial thermal power station in the state. UNI
