Around one lakh ceiling fans will be replaced with energy-efficient 5 star-rated fans in the state of Andhra Pradesh, a move that would help in saving 15 million units of electricity per annum.
“The government will replace one lakh ceiling fans with energy-efficient 5-star rated fans in Andhra Pradesh,” K Ranganatham, Energy Advisor, Andhra Pradesh, told PTI.
“The idea is to give two fans to each domestic consumer and five fans for commercial purpose and 10 fans for educational institutions,” he said.
Total replacement of one lakh fans would result in saving 15 million units (MU) of electricity per annum, he added.
“It is a pilot project and under this project, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of PSUs of Power Ministry, is likely to begin distributing the energy efficient bulbs either by the end of February or beginning of March,” Ranganatham said.
EESL is facilitating the implementation of energy efficiency projects in the country.
The cost of normal ceiling fan varies between Rs 1,600 and Rs 1,800 while energy efficient ceiling fans would cost Rs 955 and another Rs 150 as installation charges, he said.
“The amount of such ceiling fans would be recovered in 24 installments,” he added.
Under the energy efficiency mission, the government’s decision to switch over to LED bulbs by 2018 under the energy efficiency mission would result in savings of up to USD 6 billion per annum.
The Centre has set a target to distribute over six crore LED bulbs through EESL.
