AP police have no business in Hyderabad; T police chief meets Guv and complain

Taking serious objection to the deployment of AP police personnel in Hyderabad city, Telangana State Director General of Police Anurag Sharma today warned that he would withdraw police protection to all political leaders of Andhra Pradesh State. Towards this end, Anurag Sharma called on Governor ESL Narsimhan on Tuesday and complained against the presence of AP police in the State capital.

During his meeting with the Governor, the Telangana State police chief made it clear to Narsimhan that providing security to people’s representatives and maintaining law and order in Hyderabad was the primary duty of the Telangana State police personnel only. Taking objection to the presence of Andhra police in Hyderabad, the DGP said he would withdraw police protection to AP political leaders, including people’s representatives.

In the wake of AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Nadiu taking controversial decision of deploying Andhra police personnel at his residence, the Telangana police top-brass are contemplating action against the AP Director General of Police about his needless bossism in Hyderabad and consulting legal luminaries in this connection.

Some legal experts opined that deployment of AP police in Telangana State capital is totally against Section 8 of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act. The deployment of AP police in Telangana and interference in the affairs of Telangana State amounts to gross violation of AP Reorganisation Act, they felt, pointing out that Sec. 8 of the Act clearly stated that police and officials of Andhra Pradesh have no power and jurisdiction in Telangana State. They also said police of one State cannot work in another State as it is totally against the spirit of the Constitution.

According to high-placed police officials, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and DGP Anurag Sharma were planning to initiate action against their AP counterparts. “Can the neighboring Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra governments keep quiet if our police personnel are deployed in those States? Why Andhra police should enter our State and boss over us, they asked. The responsibility of maintaining law and order in Telangana State is ours only”, they contended. (NSS)
