Hyderabad: In yet another gigantic program of Energy Efficiency, aiming at deeper penetration of LED usage in the State, the AP Govt is contemplating for distribution of more number of LED bulbs to the legitimate consumers of the DISCOMs of different categories at a highly reasonable price of around Rs 90 (as per estimated price of EESL, GoI) per 9 W LED bulb against the market price of Rs 300 to Rs 400 per LED bulb. The beneficiaries have to pay the price of the bulb upfront in the counters that are going to be made operational.
This will immensely benefit the consumers as they will save around Rs 250 to Rs 300 directly on each bulb when compared to the market price. Also, they will save money due to reduction in their electricity bills as use of LED bulbs will result in energy savings of around 75 Units per bulb per year as established in the third party survey reports. Enthused with huge public response towards Energy Conservation Movement and tangible results in Energy savings through third party monitoring under DELP scheme, where 2 LED bulbs were given at just Rs.10/- each for 93 lakhs households, the Govt of AP is giving final touches to modalities of the scheme and is expected to launch the scheme soon for the benefit of the citizens, with the financial support of EESL, GoI.
“We have created history by attaining surplus power status duly overcoming severe power deficit of 22 MU per day, and now we are very much comfortable in providing 24 x 7 power supply. But I am not completely satisfied. What I want is to provide 24 X 7 supply at global standards with 100% interruption-free supply. To achieve this challenging task the Department of Energy should also focus on adopting Energy Efficiency measures in all key sectors and ensure each household gets habituated to the use of 5-star rated electrical appliances prescribed by BEE, GoI”, said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who has given green signal for the novel scheme for enhancing penetration of LED usage. Every unit of electricity generated by the power utilities has to reach to the end consumer. Adopt special mechanism to curtail wastage of even single unit of energy and also achieve the target of reducing T & D losses to single digit from existing 10.38% wherein single percentage of T & D loss reduction, results in savings of Rs 200 crore, the CM told Ajay Jain.
Ajay Jain, Principal Secretary, Energy, I&I, CRDA along with G Sai Prasad, Prl. Secretary (CMO) & K Vijayanand, CMD/APTRANSCO & MD/APGENCO apprised the Chief Minister that during the current Assembly budget sessions some of the MLAs and MLCs are keen to share the success story of Energy Conservation programs of AP, wherein the state has bagged all the five National Energy Conservation awards of GoI, and few other states have started following AP model of Energy Efficiency. The CM, who stressed the need of taking the support and help of the public representatives including MPs, MLAs, MLCs etc., for successful implementation of Energy Efficiency programmes directed that the message of impact of Energy efficient appliances usage in reduction of electricity bills as well as environmental protection should further reach each and every household, Ajay Jain said. As per the instructions of CM, to make Amaravati as the world class clean & green, energy efficient capital city, the SECM, Energy department in co-ordination with MA&UD is going to implement Special Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) plan for Amaravati, with the support of Bureau of Energy Efficiency, GoI and United Nations Development Program.
