Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Government today decided to organise this year’s official Independence Day celebrations in the port city of Visakhapatnam.
The event would be held at the picturesque Ramakrishna beach in the city, a government release said here.
Chief Secretary I Y K Krishna Rao held a meeting with officials on the arrangements for the event.
Last year, the TDP-led Government celebrated the Independence Day at Kurnool. The main Independence Day event in the states is generally held in their respective capitals.
Hyderabad is the common capital of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for ten years as per the AP Reorganisation Act. Andhra Pradesh will have to move to its permanent capital by then. The residuary State’s new capital, named Amaravati, is coming up in the Vijayawada region.
