Hyderabad, March 29: Opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh tonight demanded that the Government cancel allotment of lands to companies that failed to start their operations or generate employment as promised.
Raising the issue in the Assembly, they reiterated their demand for constitution of a Joint Legislature Committee (JLC) or a Assembly House Committee to probe the allotment of land made to several Information Technology companies, Special Economic Zones, infrastructure firms and ports.
The Lower House took up a discussion on the issue, ending a nine-day stalemate that paralysed the proceedings with a united Opposition seeking either a JLC or a House Committee to probe alleged irregularities in allocation of thousands of acres of government land for industrial purpose.
Initiating the debate, Dhulipalla Narendra Kumar (TDP) wanted the Congress government to take back land allotted to fictitious companies and re-distribute it to the farmers from whom it was originally acquired.
He referred to several irregularities in allotment of land to many IT companies, SEZs and even individuals in the name of industrial promotion and infrastructure development.
Other Opposition parties like CPI, CPM, BJP and Praja Rajyam, too, supported the demand for a JLC probe.
Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen insisted that a sub-committee be constituted within the JLC or the House Committee to probe into illegal allotment of Wakf lands.
Earlier, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy assured that the Government would consider constitution of a House Committee after a discussion on the land issue. The debate remained inconclusive.
