AP mulls vigilance committee to protect wakf lands

Hyderabad, August 01: A State-level vigilance committee would be formed for the protection of Wakf properties, Minister for Minority Welfare, Wakf and Urdu Academy Mohammad Ahmadullah said in Vijaywada while addressing a press conference July 30.

He also said that district wise review would be taken up to prevent encroachment and abuse of Wakf properties, 

Stating that the State government is committed to minority welfare, he said, “The government is giving minority students pre-matric and post-matric scholarships. The government sanctioned Rs. 68.09 crore as pre-matric scholarships to minority students for 2010-11 and released Rs. 84.07 crore for the same the previous year.”

He said the government deposited in the accounts of colleges Rs. 245.9 crore as fee for minority students and schools fee of 156.69 crore this academic year.

He said 50 Urdu-ghar-cum-shadikhanas have been sanctioned in the State through the Urdu Academy and 30 have already been constructed for the benefit of poor minority families.

The Minister laid the foundation stone for a few shadikhanas and visited Urdu schools in the city.
