Andhra Pradesh HRD Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao and Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao held a video conference on Tuesday with all the District Collectors to review on the current status of construction of functional toilets in the schools.
Recently, Cabinet Secretary P.K. Sinha interacted with the Chief Secretary to know the progress on the construction of toilets in the Schools under “Swachh Vidyalaya Initiative” Scheme, Government of India. Main aim of the scheme is there would be no schools without toilets. The toilets are being constructed by the State Government, Public Sector Undertakings and other private organizations, the Chief Secretary informed.
The HRD Minister interacted with the District Collectors and reviewed the district-wise progress of the toilets. Sanctioned toilets in the Districts are Vizianagaram – 2725; Visakhapatnam – 2055; Krishna District – 1615; Prakasam – 2521; Nellore – 2684; Kadapa – 435; Kurnool – 2200; Ananthapuram – 3908 and Srikakulam 1207. In Chittoor, East and West Godavari Districts construction is completed and about 80% of construction was completed in rest of the Districts. All the functional toilets will be made available from 1st September onwards, Officers informed.
Srinivasa Rao directed the officers concerned that qualitative constructions are important and to ensure uninterrupted water supply, maintenance of toilets in all the Districts and maintenance of the toilets may be entrusted to DWACRA Group if necessary.
The Chief Secretary issued instructions to the District Collectors to workout realistic, speedy action plan to ensure for completion of functional toilets in all the Districts by end of this month.
