The Housing ministry in Andhra Pradesh has initiated several measures to ensure transparency and quality in the implementation of housing schemes in the state. State Housing Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy held district-wise meetings with the concerned state ministers, MLAs and MLCs for 22 districts starting from February 29 over the implementation of the housing schemes. Reddy told reporters here today that some of the initiatives taken by the government in housing programmes include enhancement of Unit Cost, additional loans for SC/STs, supply of cement at low prices to all the housing schemes.
The payment system has been revamped and online facilities like scheme conversion, activation of ration card have been decentralised. In a bid to ensure transparency, the eligible list of applicants prepared by the government is displayed in website and a toll-free number is provided to receive complaints. Special officers were appointed to enquire into the complaints and an independent unit was set up to deal with complaints.
The public representatives suggested several measures for consideration during the review meetings, Reddy said. They include increasing the plinth area up to 450/500 sq ft, dispensing with post office payments and making payments through bank accounts for faster service, increasing Unit Cost for SC/ST beneficiaries and further simplifying online system.
