AP marches past others with 2 lakh engg seats!

Hyderabad, July 28: Andhra Pradesh is marching ahead of other States in technical education, at least quantitatively. With an additional intake of 35,000 seats in enginering colleges for the academic year 2009-10, the total number of seats to be filled under the convener quota rose to nearly 2 lakh (1,93,275 precisely).

With the latest intake, the State has surpassed its neighbours, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, which are also known for a high number of engineering colleges, by thousands of seats.

According to officials, Tamil Nadu has an intake of 1.4 lakh seats and Karnataka about 60,000.

In short, this means, almost everyone who qualifies Eamcet can get admission in engineering colleges, provided of course, he/she can shell out Rs 90,000 per annum! The AP State Council of Higher Education announced the final list of colleges at a press conference here on Monday on the eve of the commencement of web-based counselling process (Single Window-I) from Tuesday.

‘‘The All India Council for Technical Education has given permission to 46 new colleges and sanctioned additional intake in some colleges for this year. With this, the number of engineering colleges that would be part of the web-based counselling would be 577,’’ APSCHE Chairman KC Reddy said. He said 19 colleges were denied permission to admit students during the web-based counselling.

The list of approved colleges would be uploaded on www.apeamcet.nic.in.

Reddy said verification of certificates would begin on Tuesday and students can start choosing their options from Aug 1 to 13. Final allotment of seats would be declared on Aug 17.
