AP lawyers’ body demands Governor’s resignation

Accusing Governor E S L Narasimhan of favouring Telangana, a lawyers’ body from Andhra Pradesh today demanded his resignation.

Andhra Pradesh Lawyers Joint Action Committee (JAC), which held a meeting here today, said Narasimhan, who is the common Governor of both the states, was giving more importance to Telangana and not following Section 8 of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.

The section deals with responsibility of Governor to protect the residents of the common capital of Hyderabad.

“During today’s meeting, it was alleged that Narasimhan was showing favouritism to Telangana and neglecting Andhra Pradesh and not not implementing Section 8 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014,” JAC leader M Subba Rao said.

“In March, we had submitted a memorandum to the state and central governments seeking implementation of Section 8. We had also drawn governments’ attention to the attacks on Andhra Pradesh lawyers and other similar incidents,” he added.

Demanding Narasimhan’s removal, Rao said, “Our demand is that a new Governor should be appointed in his place.”

The Centre should release all funds as promised during the passage of the AP Reorganisation Bill 2014 and extend its cooperation and financial assistance to the cash-strapped Andhra Pradesh, a resolution passed by the JAC today said.
