People of Andhra Pradesh are lagging behind in utilization of the right to information act and the number of users are very less when compared to the total population. Addressing a press conference in Rajahmundry today, chief information commissioner, AP Information commission Jannat Hussain has observed that the statistics showed that only one lakh people used the RTI act during 2010 and during 2011 it was slightly better with the figure stands at 1.20 lakh people. He stressed the need for more number of people to come forward to utilize the provisions of the act which go a long way in ensuring transparency in administration and eliminating corruption. The commission was imposing fines on officials who failed to adhere to the provisions of the act and in some cases disciplinary action was also initiated. At state level the commission had received 17,649 petitions as second appeals ,complaints and of other nature and out of which 7,976 were disposed till now. UNI
