AP House adjourned after protest over rural job scheme

Hyderabad, March 20:The Telugu Desam Party today disrupted the Andhra Pradesh Assembly demanding an immediate discussion on the “irregularities” in the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (NREGP) forcing its adjournment without transacting any business. The main Opposition and Praja Rajam Party (PRP) moved an adjournment motion demanding a discussion on NREGP works in the State.

As Speaker Kiran Kumar Reddy disallowed the motion, the TDP members rushed into the well of the House leading to an adjournment for 30 minutes. Peace did not return even after the House reassembled as the TDP MLAs persisted with their demand.

The Speaker said he would allow a debate on the subject in a different form after discussing it with all floor leaders. Chief Minister K Rosaiah said the Government was ready for a debate on the subject.

“We are ready to rectify the lapses, if any, in the scheme. Let us discuss the issue in the House in a different form after transacting regular business,” Rosaiah said.

The TDP members, however, remained adamant forcing adjournment of the House for the second time. As chaotic scenes continued even after the members reassembled, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day.
