AP HC adjourns hearing in DGP case till June 6

Hyderabad, May 01: The Andhra Pradesh High Court today adjourned to June 6 the hearing on an appeal filed by the state government against the order of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), which had set aside the appointment of K Aravinda Rao as the Director General of Police (Head of Police Force).

The division bench comprising of Justice Nissar Ahmed Kakroo and Vilas V Afzalpurkur adjourned the matter to June 6 while Aravinda Rao continues to be DGP till then.

The state government and the DGP Aravinda Rao had filed writ petitions seeking a stay on April 27 order of the CAT (Hyderabad bench) which set aside appointment of Rao on the grounds that it violated the Supreme Court order.

The CAT directed the state government to follow the procedure laid down in the judgement of the Supreme Court in the Prakash Singh case. The tribunal gave time till June 9 to the state, Centre and the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to appoint a new DGP as Rao is set to retire by June end.
