Hyderabad, March 06: With a view to curb the menace of video piracy, Andhra Pradesh Government is contemplating taking stringent measures by way of imposing heavy penalty and enhancing punishment for the offenders.
A meeting of the Group of Ministers, constituted to examine the draft Bill to amend the AP Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, 1986 for bringing video piracy under its purview on the lines of Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Kerala, today discussed a proposal to amend the law and add provisions of non-bailable warrant against those found guilty of video piracy, an official release said here.
The meeting, attended by Home Minister Sabitha Reddy, Information Minister DK Aruna and Minister for Law E Pratap Reddy, also decided that a total list of the video libraries in Andhra Pradesh be obtained.
With regard to request of the film industry for setting up special courts at district level for quick disposal of the video piracy-related cases, it was decided to further examine the matter.It was also decided that film industry will have coordination meetings with the Police Department every month to inform the details regarding the video piracy offenders and action taken.
Officials of Police and Law departments and members of film industry, among others, participated in the deliberations, according to the release.
