AP Govt planning to save power through public participation

Hyderabad, December 18: Andhra Pradesh will mount a vigourous energy consergation awareness programme to save over 15,000 million units, valued at Rs 4,751 crore through public participation.

The government has directed the power utilities to chalk out action plan both in rural and urban areas to achieve the goal.

State Principal Secretary for Energy Dinesh Kumar, who reviewed the ongoing programmes of National Energy Conservation for 2011-12 here, said conservation of energy was vital and need of the hour.

He said the demand for power had been witnessing an ”unusual and unprecented” growth despite goverment’s effort to meet the growing energy demand. During October, 2011, the energy requirement recorded an all time high at around 288 MU per day as against 277 MU during March, 2011.

The peak demand met during December was 9,962 MW as against 8,824 MW during the same period previous year registering an increase of 12.9 per cent because of continuous dry spell and abnormal increase in agriculture demand.
