Hyderabad, June 30: The Rosaiah Government in Andhra Pradesh got a huge relief tonight successfully persuading backward class association President R Krishnaiah and BJP state President Kishan Reddy to call off their ”indefinate” fast on the highly politically sensitiv e issue of schalorships to the studdents of backward clssses, Scheduled caste and Sheduled Tribes in the current academic year.
The two leaders broke their fast on the assurance of the Government during the talks with the Ministers, Social Welfare Minister Pilli Subaschandra Bose and Health Miniter D Nagendra who beloging to the backward classes.
Even after Rosaiah had ordered release of Rs 1000 crores towards the schalorships for the students belonging to backward classes Sheduled caste and Sheduld tribes, mostly for the prefessional and post Matric courses, Kirshnaiah bagan an indefinate hunger strike from June 25 alleging delay even as it mobilised students of these community across the state charging the Rosaiah government as ”anti-bc” .
BJP smelling an oppurtunity to revive it dwindling fortunes in the state tried to grab yet another issue — it is already pushing separat Telangana state issue — Kishna Reddy jumped into the fray yesterday.
The governemnt however acted swiftly arresting Khisan Reddy and sending hin to the Ghandi Government hospital where he continuted his fast under medical suprvision.
A day earlier Krishnaiah was also moved to the hospital as authorities dismantled his ‘fast camp’ amid strong suggestions that Krishaiah had undertaken the fast allegdly’ at the biding of the Private Engineering Colleges Management in the state’. Chief Minister Rosaiah too had expressed his anguish charging a conspiracy behind the fast even after the governemnt at done ”so much for the backward classes” and also had assured that there would be not cut in the fee subsidy-schalorships this year.
