The Andhra pradesh government will accord toop priority to encourage renewable energy in general, solar and wind power sectors by initiating special measures and expedite the process of solar projects. This was to meet the severe power shortage. As part of the measures, the Government, which initially permitted APGENCO to set up solar power projects for capacity of 100 MW at various themal and Hydel project sites, and directed it to raise the required funds from PFC or REC or Banks. Disclosing the details at a meeting held at Jurala Priyadarshini Hydroelectric Project site with APGENCO Managing Director Vijayanand and Hydel and Solar Director G. Adhiseshu and other senior officials, Energy Department Principal Secretary Mr Dinesh Kumar directed the APGENCO to prepare a comprehensive project report for setting up of solar projects in a big way and submit the project report to Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), for assistance under green energy fund. In view of growing day to day needs of the electricity consumers, it was high time for the Government and power utilities take up the renewable energy projects on war footing and utilize every opportunity to achieve additional capacity, he said.
