AP govt to celebrate Sankranti on grand scale

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to organise Sankranti celebrations, the harvest festival, on a grand scale, showcasing the state’s rich history and culture in every district.

As per a directive by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Secretary I Y R Krishna Rao held a meeting today on the
proposed ‘Sankranti Sambaralu’ (Sankranti celebrations) with the state officials, a government release said.

Sankranti would be celebrated on January 14, 15 and 16 this year.

State Culture Secretary Shashank Goel has been asked to camp at Tirupati, where the state-level Sankranti celebrations
would be held.

Showcasing the state’s rich history, a food festival, Rangavalli (Rangoli) and other culture programmes would be
part of the state-level event at Tirupati.

The state government has decided to release Rs 13 crore exclusively for the state-level function and Rs one crore for
each district towards the Sankranti celebrations.

The chief secretary has spoken to the General Manager of South Central Railway (SCR) to increase the number of trains
from Hyderabad to different destinations and vice-versa in Andhra Pradesh for the benefit of people who travel to their
native places in large numbers to celebrate the festival.

The SCR General Manager has promised to run special trains as requested by the state government, the release said.
