Hyderabad, January 02: Several leaders of the ruling and Opposition parties presented memoranda on Telangana at Governor’s `Praja Durbar’ while a few representatives from non-government organisations (NGOs) sought protection of greenery and environment, and expressed concern at social ills The Governor, fot the first time in the history of the State, conducted Praja Durbar at the Raj Bhavan. The interaction programme was held from 11 am to 1 pm today by ESL Narasimhan to feel the public pulse.
Narasimhan accepted a number of memoranda submitted by political leaders, students, representatives from nongovernment organisations (NGOs) and general public on people on various problems.
The `Praja Durbar’ evoked good response with hundreds of people from various walks of life meeting and greeting the Governor on the occasion of New Year Day and submitting representations.
Just about four days into office, Narasimhan started his innings by interacting with the common man and political leaders of different denominations.
Leaders who called on Narasimhan later told mediapersons that the Governor was very keen to know all the details pertaining to political, social and other public problems prevailing in the State.
VGR Naragoni, chairman of Praja Telangana Samithi (PTS), said they submitted a representation on problems being faced by the common man. “The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government should not invite Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) chief Chiranjeevi to the meeting which will be convened to discuss Telangana on January 5 in New Delhi. Instead, PTS leaders should be invited to the meeting,” Naragoni demanded.
Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy said the government should declare this year as `youth year’ and give importance to the youth in politics, employment and other social activities.
Chief Minister K Rosaiah called on Governor at the Raj Bhavan and discussed various issues for more than 20 minutes.
With the Raj Bhavan officials giving permission to the public to meet the Governor, a large number of securitymen have been deployed at the Governor’s residence. However, TV channel crew and print media photographers were not allowed into the Raj Bhavan to cover the Praja Durbar programme.
Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, Telugu Desam supremo N Chandrababu Naidu, former minister and senior Congress leader K Jana Reddy, TDP senior leader Nannapaneni Raja Kumari, AP Backward Classes Welfare Association president R Krishnaiah, several MLAs, MLCs, school students and bureaucrats met the Governor and conveyed new year greetings.
