AP government staff serve strike notice

Hyderabad, October 22: The state government employees on Thursday served a strike notice demanding that the government fulfil their demands within a month failing which they will go on a strike.

As announced earlier, the Joint Action Committee of Employees, Teachers and Workers on Thursday served strike notice on chief secretary SV Prasad.

Speaking to reporters, JAC secretary general K Swamy Goud announced that the JAC will organise relay hunger strikes at Indira Park from November 8 to 16 and in all district headquarters from November 10 to 12.

In case the government fails to address their demands, they would organise ‘Chalo Hyderabad’ with 6.5 lakh employees on November 23. Swamy Goud warned that all the demands put forward before the state government should be resolved within a month failing which the employees will not hesitate to launch indefinite hunger strike and agitations across the state.

The JAC has been demanding cashless treatment for illness instead of medical reimbursement, a hike in house rent allowance to 20 per cent in district headquarters and 15 per cent in rural areas, and amendments in automatic advancement scheme with at least three promotional increments for every six years.

The employees also wanted the government to regularise services of contingency workers, filling six lakh vacant posts in various departments, cancel the apprenticeship system for teachers.
