Hyderabad, October 16: Andhra Pradesh government will soon enact a legislation to protect the interest of tenant farmers in the state.
The new law will enable tenant farmers to secure loans from banks besides availing benefits like insurance and ex-gratia payments if the landlord issues a No-Objection Certificate, state Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao said.
“The proposed legislation will also safeguard interests of landlords,” he said.
As per existing laws, only landlords are eligible to get the benefits and the tenant farmers who actually cultivate the land could not avail such facilities.
In almost all cases, land cultivation agreements are not written, which has been depriving the tenant farmers of any help, the minister said.
Rao and Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy were speaking to reporters after a meeting with district collectors through video-conference here today.
