Andhra Pradesh government has announced to give monthly honourarium of Rs. 5000 and 3000 to Imams and Muezzins respectively. Identifying 2500 masajid, the government has allotted 2 cr for the scheme. Commissioner Minority Welfare Andhra Pradesh Shaikh Mohammed Iqbal IPS told that the government has introduced the scheme to provide financial assistance to low salaried Imams and Muezzins.
It must be noted the Telangana government has also decided to pay monthly honourarium of Rs. 1000 to Imams and Muezzins.
Andhra Pradesh government feels that Rs. 1000 is insufficient to improve the standard of living of Imams and Muezzins.
Shaikh Mohammed Iqbal told that low salaried Imams and Muezzins can submit application directly. Every month the amount will be deposited into their accounts.
