AP couple dupes Rs 1.3 crores from investors

Hyderabad, December 26: A married couple was arrested at Chilkalguda today for duping several persons to the tune of Rs 1.3 crore by promising them attractive returns by investing their money in stock exchange.

Chilkalguda police said that Vijay Shekar and his wife Renuka, residing at Jubilee Hills, collected Rs 10 lakh from one Aathmarao, a resident of Padmarao Nagar.

“The couple promised Rao attractive returns stating that they would invest the Rs 10 lakh given by him in stock market. But for the last several months, Rao was neither given returns nor was his invested money returned,” Chilkalguda SI M Laxma Reddy said.

Besides Aathmarao, police said, the couple also duped eight others. “The money invested by all victims amounts to Rs 1.3 crore. The case has been shifted to Central Crime Station (CCS),” police said. The couple began collecting money from people since 2007 and paid returns regularly for only a few months. But in the last seven months, the couple did not give any returns to their investors following which cases were registered against them. Aathmarao lodged a police complaint with Chilkalguda police.

The couple was sent to judicial remand.
