AP Council adjourned over twin Opposition demands

Hyderabad, March 21: CPI(M)’s demand for a debate on welfare of Dalits and tribals and TDP’s plea for appointment of a Joint Legislative Committee to go into alleged irregularities in land allotments led to the adjournment of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council today.

Alleging that irregularities took place in land allotments during the last several years, Leader of Opposition Dadi Veerabhadra Rao demanded that a Joint Legislative Committee be constituted to go into the issue.

Ch Sitaramulu (CPM) and others sought a debate on the 50 demands concerning welfare of Dalits, tribals, farmers, urban poor and other sections, over which CPI(M) State Secretary B V Raghavulu and three other party leaders have been fasting since March 17.

Council Chairman Chakrapani adjourned the House briefly, but the Opposition members raised their demand even after the House re-assembled.
