The Andhra Pradesh government today constituted seven missions covering various sectors, to ensure effective governance and fulfil the objective of making the state “poverty-free” by 2029.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu here today.
The proposed missions would cover key sectors like social welfare, infrastructure, industries, skill development, urban development, primary and services, Minister for Information and Public Relations Palle Raghunatha Reddy said.
Briefing reporters on the Cabinet decisions, the minister said that the proposed missions would ensure “effective and corruption-free governance” and work towards fulfilling the government’s objective to make the state “poverty-free” by the year 2029, by “removing economic inequalities”.
The AP Cabinet also approved setting up of a floating storage and re-gassification unit (FRSU) near Kakinada in collaboration with the Gas Authority of India (GAIL), Shell Petroleum and AP Gas Development Corporation, which would generate a revenue of Rs 1,700 crore to the state as well as create 2,000 jobs.
“The FSRU will enable import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) at a cheaper rate and supply needy companies in the state,” the minister said.
The AP Cabinet also decided to do away with the Adarsa Rythu (exemplary farmer) Scheme launched by the erstwhile Y S Rajasekhara Reddy-led Congress government.
Accordingly, about 29,000 Congress workers who were appointed as “adarsa rythus” with a monthly “honorarium” of Rs 1,000 would be removed.
“Instead, the government will appoint multi-purpose extension officers (MPEOs) to promote agriculture extension activity which is very vital. There will be one MPEO for every 1,000 hectares and a ‘rythu mitra’ (farmer’s friend) for every 100 hectares,” Raghunatha Reddy said.
