Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu saluted the efforts of freedom fighter and designer of the National tricolour Pingali Venkayya on his birth anniversary on Saturday.
Remembering his contribution for the country, the Chief Minister said that it is a matter of pride for all Telugu people to have such a visionary hail from Andhra Pradesh.
Pingali Venkayya has conceived and designed the National flag. He is also credited for his suggestion, at the National Conference of Indian National Congress held in Kakinada, that India should have a flag of its own. This was when Mahatma Gandhi suggested Venkayya to come up with a design. Venkayya proposed a tricolour with a spinning wheel in the middle. The design was the basis for the National Flag of India.
