Hyderabad, May 12: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today condemned the arrest of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi by Uttar Pradesh police even as Telugu Desam Party attacked Rahul’s statement that he was ashamed of being an Indian.
The Chief Minister said Rahul Gandhi was “fighting for a just cause” of the farmers of Batta Parasaul village in Uttar Pradesh.
“Our leader was only agitating for justice along with the helpless farmers who lost everything in the village. He was trying to represent the genuine cause of thousands of poor farmers who are demanding justice and higher compensation. It is his democratic right to agitate and as a leader to fight on behalf of the farmers,” Kiran Kumar said in a statement this evening.
Meanwhile, the principal Opposition Telugu Desam Party has criticised Rahul Gandhi’s statement that he was ashamed of being an Indian.
