AP CM asks for CBI probe into YSR chopper crash

Hyderabad, September 07: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah today announced his government’s decision to request the Centre to order a CBI enquiry into the September two helicopter crash, in which late Chief Minister Y S Rajaekhara Reddy and four others died.

Home Minister P Chidambaram immediately agreed to the request of Mr Rosaiah during their telephonic conversation, an official press release from the Chief Minister’s office said.

The state government also decided to constitute a two-member High Level Expert Committee to go into all aspects prior to the mishap and regarding the crash.

Mr Rosaiah has also written to Mr Chidambaram for a CBI probe. The Chief Minister said, ”the government views the incident very seriously and is determined to bring out all dtails and facts. Mr Rajasekhara Reddy was a towering personality not only in the state, but throughout the country and reaction of the people of the country is a testimony to this.” He said the state government would also initiate steps to prevent any such incidents in future.

Earlier, giving details of the composition of the High level committee, Home Minister Sabita Indira Reddy told reporters that the Committee comprises Mr M R Reddy, IPS (Retd), an expert in VIP security and H S Kola, former Director General, Civil Aviation (DGCA), Government of India. She said the committee had been asked to submit its report in two months time. The committee could co-opt an expert and an officer, if required, and promise all assistance to it to unravel the truth.
